Mary Graham-Grant,
Founder
Mary was born and raised in Georgetown, South Carolina, and has been committed to preserving the tradition of sweetgrass basketry since creating her first basket in 1990. She is passionate about people understanding the significance of sweetgrass basketry – an art form brought to South Carolina by West African people who were enslaved and practiced continuously for over three centuries.

Mary has had the pleasure of serving as an artist-in-residence in various elementary, middle, and high schools, and has conducted workshops for numerous arts councils and government organizations across South Carolina and other states. She has also led week-long workshops at universities in Virginia and Maryland.
When Mary is not making sweetgrass baskets and jewelry, she enjoys serving as the communication officer for her church. She also loves spending her free time coloring with women from her home church and friends throughout the east coast; Clarksville, TN, Georgetown, SC and Philadelphia, PA.
